Wilsons Promontory is a stunning natural area on the southernmost tip of the Australian continent. It is Victoria’s most loved National Park and and a stunning wilderness area. The granite based mountains loom out into the sea, surrounded by the clearest blue waters and some of the most pristine beaches in the country. The ruggedness and sheer beauty of the park captures the hearts of all who visit.
‘The Prom’ is located 230 kilometres south-east of Melbourne, and is a favourite of animal lovers and hikers for its abundant wildlife and hiking trails.
Our tour will take take you through the rolling hills of the South-East Gippsland dairy country. We’ll stop at a local culinary town for morning tea and to gather some picnic supplies. Next we head towards Wilsons Promontory National Park. Once inside the park, there are a number of short and medium length day walks to choose between as well as many suburb beaches to explore.
Your day at Wilsons Promontory will cater to your interests and how much walking you want to do. You can do a combination of walks in the areas, including Mt Oberon (2hrs), Mt. Bishop (1.5hrs) or the rainforest beauty of Lilly Pilly Gully (1.5hrs). There’s also a simply amazing beach walk between Squeaky Beach and Tidal river (1.5hrs) that offers spectacular coastal views with huge granite boulders.
Our recommendation for good walkers is to take on the Mt. Bishop walk, followed by the Squeaky Beach to Tidal River walk before relaxing on the beach and later viewing kangaroos and emus. This provides up to 3hrs of walking plus some time on the beaches and with animals. However, we can easily accommodate your preference for more or less walking and more or less relaxing time.
Whatever your choice, you’ll be able to view the wild kangaroos and emus. This is always one of the best wildlife viewing spots in Victoria.
If you are interested in planning extended walks, please talk to us about our options for serious hikers.
We provide a gourmet picnic for you to enjoy in the park either on the beach, at the picnic tables of tidal river or somewhere remote watching the wildlife. Usually a gourmet selection of locally made selection of meats, cheese, breads, a bottle of wine and other goodies.
On our journey we pick up a locally inspired gourmet picnic basket for you to enjoy in the park. Your gourmet basket will include a selection selection of cured meats, spread, and healthy salads along with a few sweet snacks. This can be complimented with a bottle of wine. Vegetarians are catered for.
The park is 200km from Melbourne in the picturesque Sth East Gippsland region and takes approx 2 hrs to arrive. You will get 5 hrs in the park.
Tour departs from your accommodation at 8.00 am and your return is approx 7.00 -7.30pm
This depends on you, we will suggest walks based on your fitness and your interests. The maximum is about 4 hrs of walking, or we could just explore using the vehicle and visit the beaches and short trails. Let us know your interests when you book.
