This tour combines two spectacular nature experiences in one day. First, taken in the unmatched beauty of the granite mountains and pristine beaches of Wilsons Promontory then visit the world-famous Phillip Island Penguin Parade in the evening.
In the morning, we head out through the rolling hills of the South-East Gippsland dairy country. We’ll stop at a local culinary town for morning tea and to gather some picnic supplies. Next we head towards Wilsons Promontory National Park. Once inside the park, there are a number of short and medium length day walks to choose between as well as many suburb beaches to explore.
Your day at Wilsons Promontory will cater to your interests and how much walking you want to do. You can do a combination of walks in the areas, including Mt Oberon (2hrs), Mt. Bishop (1.5hrs) or the rainforest beauty of Lilly Pilly Gully (1.5hrs). There’s also a simply amazing beach walk between Squeaky Beach and Tidal river (1.5hrs) that offers spectacular coastal views with huge granite boulders.
Our recommendation for good walkers is to take on the Mt. Bishop walk, followed by the Squeaky Beach to Tidal River walk before relaxing on the beach and later viewing kangaroos and emus. This provides up to 3hrs of walking plus some time on the beaches and with animals. However, we can easily accommodate your preference for more or less walking and more or less relaxing time.
Departing ‘the Prom’, we always stop to view the wild Kangaroos and Emus at one of the best wildlife viewing spots in Victoria.
We head to Phillip Island to see the Nobbies and Seal Rocks, home to thousands of Australian fur seals. Of course, the island is most famous for the Penguin Parade that occurs each evening. This is a must-see for any wildlife enthusiast! It is a truly unique experience watching the multitude of little penguins return from the ocean to their burrows each night. We upgrade you to Penguin Plus tickets for a premium viewing experience.
Dinner is at the seaside town of Cowes on Phillip island. Your guide will recommend local restaurants and book for you. Tour price does not include dinner.
Penguins Underground: View the penguins from the warmth of the underground bunker as they waddle past to their burrows at eye level. Only 70 tickets available. Ideal for Winter bookings
Guided Ranger Tour Join your ranger guide for an informative journey through the penguin colony, enjoying their commentary via your personal headset. Take your seat in the wonderfully located beachfront viewing stand, or if conditions allow, right on the sand, Guoffering superb viewing of the penguins emerging from the water and crossing the beach.
Select online option. Must book in advance, subject to availability.
We provide a gourmet picnic for you to enjoy in the park either on the beach, at the picnic tables of tidal river or somewhere remote watching the wildlife. Usually a selection of meats, cheese, breads, salad and other goodies.

A gourmet food hamper is prepared for your picnic lunch. Usually a selection of local cured meats, dips and spreads, along with fresh salad and some artisan bread, as well as some tasty sweets. Weather permitting we set up a picnic rug either on the beach, by the river or in the forest. You decide!
Wilsons Promontory is 2hr drive from Melbourne to the entrance and a further 40 minutes to Tidal River. Returning to Melbourne via Phillip Island is broken up into two 1.5hr journeys. You will get back late after the Penguin Parade.
Tour departs 8.00am Melbourne and returns after Penguin parade around 8-8.30 in winter and 10.30-11.00 in summer.
Its up to you. Either a series of short walks 1-2 hrs or just some beach strolling and short 30 minute walks. Please let your guide know how much walking you want to do. The usual tour is a combination of a few short walks and strolls on the beach. If you are more adventurous we can arrange something for you.
